Movie Night - "Dare to Be"

Movie Night Under the Stars

Hosted by Crew XIII

“Movie Night Under the Stars” will be screened during the August 23rd TGIF. The movie, Dare to Be, is a documentary film not only on the sport of rowing, but also the human spirit. It follows a series of rowers ranging from novice girls, to women training for the Olympics, as they overcome obstacles and seek greatness. We learn along their journey that greatness can come in many forms and should not always be measured by traditional concepts of success, but rather by individual triumphs. It essentially suggests that athletes can define what success looks like to them – not coming in last place, beating a rival, medaling for the first time, qualifying for nationals, or winning an Olympic gold medal.

Please join us on the patio to watch the sunset (7:25 pm) and the movie to follow immediately thereafter. Bring a jacket or a throw to stay warm. A $10 donation is encouraged.

127 Dresses - Bring a Buck!

127 Dresses - Bring a Buck!

Crew XIV Presents:

127 Dresses - Bring a Buck!

In the film “27 Dresses” (2008), Katherine Heigl’s character is always a bridesmaid, never a bride, with a closet stuffed full of bridesmaid’s dresses ranging from chic to Little Bo Peep.

Most of us don’t have a closet full of leftover bridesmaid’s dresses, but we probably have one or two! This is your opportunity to get your money’s worth out of that dress your friend swore you’d wear again. At 127 Dresses, we plan to celebrate ZLAC’s 127th anniversary in style: we want you to wear a bridesmaid’s dress, a wedding dress, or any dress that you don’t get the chance to wear very often!

We’ll be putting the clothes to good use: a photographer will be capturing all of us with the new Garden surroundings so that the photos can be used on the website to show off our venue for inquiring brides! Men are welcome, and we encourage your partner to come so it looks like a real wedding reception!

Later, we’ll have dinner and dancing, and we’ll be collecting dresses to donate to a local charity. You can also “shop” the dresses for a small fee!

If you have a dress like this, you’d better wear it because we definitely want to see it!

If you have a dress like this, you’d better wear it because we definitely want to see it!

Donations are highly encouraged, though admission is free. We still need you to RSVP.

Intro to Safe Cycling

Image 1.jpg

Registration deadline: Thursday, November 22nd

Sometimes we can’t row! Bicycling is a great way to get around town; it’s healthy and fun. This class is an introduction to the principles of riding safely on roads shared with motor vehicles. Are you:

  • Able to ride a bike, but find cycling on the road more scary than fun?

  • Hoping to gain knowledge and confidence on the bike?

  • Wanting to crosstrain by cycling outdoors, instead of indoors?

  • Hoping to begin biking to work, school, appointments, ZLAC, etc.?

  • An experienced cyclist, but no one ever taught you the laws?

  • Just guessing at the rules of the road?

If so, then this course is for you!

To participate in the on-bike sections of this course you MUST:

  • Wear a helmet.

  • Bring an appropriate bicycle in sound, working condition, ready to be ridden, air in the tires.

  • Be able to ride said bicycle reasonably well, i.e. being able to start, stop, turn, ride in a straight line, and look over your shoulder.

Minimum age 13. All must sign waiver, or if aged 13-17 have it signed by parent/guardian. In case of inclement weather, we will reschedule. Bring water, a snack if needed, and appropriate outdoor clothes, preferably in bright colors. Wear pants or tights that are skinny at the ankle, or you can bring a clip, velcro strip, or long socks to secure loose pants.

Taught by: Susan Patch, The League of American Bicyclists Cycling Instructor #5866 • San Diego County Bicycle Coalition • ZLAC member
